Weichai: The ambition after Lan Qing

Twelve tons of behemoths have to climb up to a 60° slope and down to a pit of 1.5 metres deep. On October 30, 2010, such thrilling performances were being performed at the Shaanxi Steam Cup 2010 National Super Truck Contest in the Shaoguan Logistics Port Finals.

This energy-saving and environmentally-friendly diesel engine, which meets Euro III emission regulations and has the Euro IV potential, was developed in cooperation with the Austrian AVL company. Its fuel consumption, emissions, noise, and reliability are among the world's advanced standards. Since Weichai Power officially launched Lanqingguo III diesel engine in 2005, it has been recognized by the market for energy conservation, environmental protection, efficiency, and speed.

The super destructive test on the playing field makes Lan Qing more emboldened when facing the market. Judging from the track, the uphill slope of the Three Peaks can reach a maximum of 60 degrees, and is a continuous hump of 4 meters, 6 meters, and 8 meters. In this way, DeLong Racing had to repeat more than 24 times in 2.5 hours.

The depth of 1.5 meters in the sand pit is another test. The car rushed in at a speed of around 20km/h, nearly vertically falling into the pit, and its impact force was equivalent to several times or even ten times the weight of the car. It was like a car with a thousand crowns for the car chassis, and for the engine, It is tantamount to a purgatory. No wonder some people jokingly claimed that the National Super Truck Cross Country Race is the first test ground for Chinese trucks.

Heavy trucks equipped with a Weichai engine have provided tremendous support for the stable operation of racing cars and racers. He moved to nine cities across the country for two years, traveled tens of thousands of kilometers, and went through 18 preliminaries and finals. Despite the scars of racing skin, his heart was still strong.

It is worth mentioning that on June 21 this year, Weichai Group held a 100 billion-level green power R&D and manufacturing base and a 1.5 million-strong high-power diesel engine strategic planning conference in Weifang, Shandong Province, to announce the 5-8-10 strategic target, namely 2012. The sales revenue will be 50 billion yuan, 80 billion yuan in 2015, and 100 billion yuan in 2020. In order to achieve this strategic goal, Weichai must lay a solid foundation, consolidate and further expand its advantages in the heavy truck market in traditionally advantageous areas, so that it can do a better job in deploying and building a full range of engine platforms in all areas.

It is understood that the existing production capacity of heavy truck companies has reached 1.5 million, and it is expected to exceed 3 million by the end of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period. If Weichai Power currently accounts for nearly 40% of the market share in the heavy truck market, the demand for 10L or more engines for Weichai Power in the heavy truck market will reach 1.2 million units in 5 years. The introduction of an upgraded version of the Lanqing Power II generation in the medium and heavy markets will further expand the advantages of Weichai Power, and the test of the racing field will also help lay the foundation for the next 600-horsepower R&D battle for the domestic trucks. Continuous technology upgrades to enrich its brand connotation.

The harvest of Weichai in the cross-country truck race seems to underscore its more ambitious future.
