Volkswagen's global car sales this year are expected to exceed 7 million vehicles

According to an external news report, Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Wendeng stated on November 23 that Volkswagen’s global car sales will exceed 7 million vehicles for the first time this year.

Last year, the Volkswagen Group sold 6.29 million vehicles worldwide, including Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley and Lamborghini. Sales volume ranked third in the world. In 2009, Volkswagen was the only car manufacturer whose global home sales rose. Volkswagen's global car sales in 2008 were 6.27 million.

Volkswagen plans to surpass Toyota by 2018 and become the world's first car sales volume. In 2009, Toyota's global car sales were 7.81 million, which was a 13% drop from sales in 2008.

Wen Deen said: “The annual sales volume of 7 million vehicles is of milestone significance to the public’s achievement of the 2018 target. Volkswagen's global car sales in 2018 are expected to exceed 10 million.”

In 2009, the world's second-car makers sold 748 million units of general-purpose vehicles, a 11% drop from sales in 2008. Ford's global car sales in 2009 was 4.75 million vehicles, which was a 11% drop from sales in 2008 and ranked fourth in global car sales.
