The Gulf Region has acted as the “center of gravity†of the global petrochemical and chemical industry
An industry expert recently said in an interview with a reporter from The Gulf Times in Doha that with the support of adequate raw materials and world-class processing and export facilities, the petrochemical production in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region will increase over the next four years. It will increase by more than 30%.
Abdulwahab ai-Sadoun, secretary general of the Gulf Petrochemical and Chemical Association, said that the annual petrochemical output in the GCC region will increase from 112 million tons in 2011 to 149 million tons by 2016.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar are leaders in the development of the petrochemical and chemical industries in the GCC region. Sadoun pointed out that the Gulf region has acted as the "center of gravity" of the global petrochemical and chemical industry.
