GTT launches LPG cargo containment system

GTT, a specialist in liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo containment systems, is turning its attention to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) containment systems.

Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT, stated, “With the use of GTT's MARS technology, the LPG industry will benefit from this optimized containment technology and be able to transport more cargo than other containment systems. Cooling and heating time is shorter than other systems."

According to GTT, it has been proven that in addition to transporting LNG, its NO96 and Mark III cargo containment systems (CCS) have the ability to transport a variety of other gases and are fully compatible with LPG transport.

However, because these containment systems are primarily designed for LNG, these containment systems may not be optimized for LPG specific market applications. Therefore, GTT is developing a containment system that transports LPG cargo at temperatures above -55 ° C and liquid densities below 700 kg/m3. The cargo containment system, known as GTT MARS, is derived from a re-improved GTT concept that provides innovative solutions for maritime verification.

It is reported that the technology uses the same corrugated steel membrane as the company's Mark III fuel tank. This new technology was acquired by the Lloyd's Register of Shipping during the recent International Gas Technology Show (Gastech 2017) in Tokyo, Japan. Contact) General approval.

Tank sealability will be achieved by a stainless steel (purchased in the product library) film. The seal is supported by a layer of plywood box insulation that is filled with glass filaments. The structural design of the plywood box will help to maintain cargo pressure inside the tank.

Since the envelope will be directly supported by the ship type, its impact on the weight of the ship is very limited and has a lower empty ship weight than the self-supporting tank. Therefore, it is possible to increase the total cargo capacity while maintaining the overall size of the ship.

Another key feature of the envelope is its very low heat capacity. This helps the LPG ship operator optimize cooling operations for up to 17 hours and limit the amount of regasification gas.
