13th Lab launches Rescape to bring virtual world back to reality
This week, the 13th Lab team from Sweden officially presented the game project Rescape at the game developer conference. Rescape software can scan the surrounding environment to ensure that these virtual worlds match the actual physical environment. Players can move, run and shoot freely in the real world and have a better virtual gaming experience.
At the conference, the 13th Lab team used Rescape to demonstrate a shooting game. The team will place an iPhone on a support device and use the iPhone's internal accelerometers, gyroscopes, and cameras to scan the site environment to create a virtual world. Players can shoot the virtual world through the screen of the mobile phone. 13th Lab said that the device is currently priced at at least $149 on the Kickstarter website.
Petter Ivmark, co-founder of 13th Lab, told GigaOM: “Other people bring players into virtual, and we bring virtual reality to reality.â€
In addition, 13th Lab will follow-up Android version of Rescape software. However, players are unlikely to play this shooting game for the time being, because Rescape is a technology platform, not a game platform, and it does not face ordinary consumers. The technical team believes that if there is no outstanding game design, good technology will only appear to be blank. 13th Lab hopes that game developers can create games based on real-world conditions and work with them in an authorized form to promote this technology to a wide range of game developers.
