Praxair builds flagship device in China

Praxair (China) Investment Co., Ltd. announced that the company has signed a contract with Jiangsu Thorpe (Group) Co., Ltd. to supply industrial gas for the Thorpe Group's acetic acid gasification process transformation project.
Under the contract, Praxair will design, construct, operate and manage a modern large-scale air separation plant. The device is planned to be put into use in 2009. The air separation unit can supply 3,000 tons of gas per day. It is the largest air separation unit used by Praxair for gas sales. It will also be the largest single air separation unit built in Asia. The air separation unit will be integrated with advanced and low-cost coal gasification processes to provide raw materials for the Thorpe Group acetic acid plant. This unit will supply oxygen, nitrogen, and argon to the rapidly developing East China market.

Thorpe Group, located in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, is currently the largest acetic acid producer in China and holds 30% of the domestic market share. The Group will endeavor to build an upstream and downstream integrated industrial chain with acetic acid as its core and improve its core competitiveness. Acetic acid is a raw material for the production of adhesives, textiles, coatings, paper, polyester fibers and plastic bottles.
