Mitsubishi Steam Turbine Receives Order for Hyundai Heavy Industries LNG Carrier
Tokyo, Japan, November 21 news: Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI)'s Marine Machinery and Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME) has received orders from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to transport four LNG carriers to be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The ship is supplied with four Super Turbine (UST) units, and the shipowner is Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), a Malaysian state-owned oil and gas supplier.
It is reported that the order also includes the priority of the other four LNG carrier UST devices, which is the first time Mitsubishi Heavy Industries sold UST to markets outside Japan. The unit is expected to be delivered in 2015.
The UST unit delivered by Mitsubishi includes 4 marine steam turbines and 8 boilers, all of which are independently developed by Mitsubishi. Compared with traditional steam propulsion, it can improve fuel efficiency by nearly 15%, which is more economical and environmentally friendly. The turbine will be the main engine for the four LNG carriers of PETRONAS.
